Top 7 Under $1000

Every car can benefit from modifications, whether the benefit is improved performance or aesthetics; mods can do wonders for your car. The million dollar question is where do you start? There are thousands of different things you can add to your car, but that doesn't mean you should go out and overkill your new car.

We have compiled a list of the top 7 modifications you can get started with, adding them to your ride without worrying about going over the top, also we have kept in mind that modifying cars is expensive so each mod in this list can be purchased for $1000 or less.

1.Lowering springs.
Slamming a car to the ground can make for some good looks. Not only will the car benefit from its improved looks as a tarmac scraper but nose dive under hard breaking will be greatly reduced, as well as body roll in fast corners. There are three typical options to choose from with regard to upgrading springs to lower a car: lowering springs, coil overs, and shock kits, the choice is yours and will most likely be based on budget.
Expected Cost: $100+

2. Tires and Rims
The mod that could have taken No. 1, rims and tires are one of the most essential car mods out there. Every year you will catch kids in boosted 4 bangers who forgot to buy the most essential mod to compliment such dramatic performance gains... BETTER RIMS AND TIRES. Good rubber and lightweight rims will do wonders to your car as it will help put your power to the pavement as well as significantly improve cornering. You can buy pre-assembled packages online with relative ease, just visit tirerack enter your vehicle specifications and all the rim sizes for your car will populate the screen.
Expected Cost: $800+

3. Aftermarket deck
Stock radio decks are usually not very good, and would not be able to handle quality aftermarket speakers and subs. When it comes to aftermarket decks your choices are endless, with so many different companies delivering quality products your choices really are endless. It comes down to what features are important to you, once you decide between touch screen or conventional, the number of aux/usb inputs, iPod functionality... the list goes on but once you've decided on these features your rolling.
Expected Cost: $80+

4. Amp, Speakers, Sub
Now that you've got your new feature rich deck you're going to need some quality speakers, and a decent sub to deliver the premier music experience. When it comes to speakers you are basically going to be shopping for size, and whether or not they have built in tweeters. Once you have your speakers picked out you're going to need a decent size subwoofer, one 10 inch will usually do good in giving you all that much needed bass... And don't forget an amp to power it all.
Expected Cost: $350+

5. Steering Wheel
A nice aftermarket steering wheel can really add to the look of an interior. Picking out a steering wheel is pretty simple, just go for a style that you like and away you go. Just keep in mind that cars with airbags will need to have the airbags removed in order to throw in an aftermarket wheel, also certain municipalities may have some things to say about cars with standard safety features (airbags) removed, so make it your due diligence to check before you pick one up.
Expected Cost: $120+

6. Shift Knob
Reasons for changing your shift knob are shared with why you've decided to add a new steering wheel... its cool? Just unscrew your old shift knob and find a new one that you like, screw it in and off you go.
Expected Cost: $25+

7. Cold air intake
More airflow in your engine does many things small things for your car. First adding an intake will give you improved throttle response, that you will definitely feel coming off the line. Second, more cold air in your motor means more power (gains will not be huge, expect anywhere from 8hp to as low as 1 or 2hp gains). Lastly an intake will give your car an appealing 'sucking' sound as you put on the gas, sound of your engine sucking in a lot more air than with the stock air filter.
Expected Cost: $100+

Five Car Modifications for Extreme Fuel Efficiency

Improving Cars for Greater Fuel Efficiency

Once a vehicle naturally reaches its limits on fuel efficiency, most people either resign themselves to their car's gas mileage or go looking for a replacement. For a dedicated few, however, the answer is changing the car.

Here are a few unusual modifications that can boost a vehicle's fuel efficiency and ecological friendliness, sometimes at the expense of storage space or weird looks from neighbors. Drivers who take on these kinds of modifications are voiding their warranties and risking damage to their cars, but they may be doing a lot less damage to the environment.

Covering the Wheels

Wheel skirts seem old-fashioned, but they were relatively common on many classic cars, usually as part of a streamlined styling package. More recent vehicles such as the original Honda Insight have used skirts to improve vehicle aerodynamics, however.

Some car owners seek to get the benefits that Honda included in the Insight for their own vehicles by adding DIY wheel skirts. These reduce turbulence around the back wheels of the car and make sure that airflow is smooth and uninterrupted. Most do-it-yourself skirt additions are for the back of the car, but a few extreme modification fans also add skirting on the front.

Reduce Turbulence and Radiator Airflow

By adding simple grille blocks to a vehicle, fuel efficiency enthusiasts can reduce the amount of turbulence around the front bumper and the hood. This relatively cost-effective modification also helps reduce the flow of air around and through the radiator.

In cold climates, this helps the engine reach its ideal operating heat much more quickly. In hot climates, grille blocks may not be the best idea, however; they can encourage the engine to overheat.

Removing the Mirrors

While taking the side mirrors off a car entirely isn't safe or legal, replacing them with cameras does provide some aerodynamic benefit. The car takes up less space and air flows better around it. The best cameras for this purpose are tiny wireless devices that transmit to a central screen, allowing drivers to see the sides and rear of the car clearly.

A cheaper alternative includes replacing the side mirrors with convex mirrors similar to those used to spot shoplifters in some stores, but smaller. These can be mounted on the inside of the front windows and functionally replace the mirrors.

Taking Weight Reduction to Extremes

Most people realize that they shouldn't haul around old camping equipment, tools or other heavy objects when those items aren't in use. A few people take weight reduction much further, though. Drivers who don't often take passengers with them have been known to remove the rear and sometimes front passenger seats in search of better gas mileage.

Some even go as far as to remove the vehicle's soundproofing, interior trim, audio systems and any other non-essential items. This is similar to the stripping procedure that race car drivers use to get the highest speeds and uses less fuel on acceleration. The downside is that the car may be less comfortable or extremely loud on the highway.

Adding a Boat-tail

Truly extreme modifications go beyond changing accessories or interior features; they actually redesign the vehicle body. Putting a boat-tail on a car changes its look entirely for the sake of improved aerodynamics. Boat tails prevent heavy turbulence behind the car, but they make it longer and potentially more difficult to park and drive in heavy traffic.

Even though a boat tail adds significant weight to the car, the aerodynamic gains are large enough to provide a big improvement in fuel economy. These are more impressive as the vehicle reaches high speeds, of course, since the engine works less hard to move a streamlined car at Interstate speeds. The gains are smaller for enthusiasts who choose to mount a small spoiler instead of a boat-tail, but spoilers tend to be cheaper, easier to install, and less peculiar-looking.

Online Auto Quotes - Easy Car Modification Process

Customization and modifying of cars are presently done with unique, high-tech and expensive materials. But the confusing question is if all the modifications will be covered by the service providers. Another question is if the modification will cause an increase in your premium.

Formerly, customization of cars was mainly about painting, but presently customization. Now consist of various additions like shiny wheels, TV screens and LCD monitors, exhaust pipes, customized grill, GPS systems, DVD players and even video game consoles. But before spending a lot of money on modifying your car, you need to consider your auto insurance policy.

The recent increase of car modifications has made it quite impossible for insurance companies to provide coverage for modifications that are being made to cars. Your best option is to visit your insurance agent or get a quote from a new insurance provider before buying.

It is right to insure your car more especially customized ones. The reason still remains that you have spent a whole lot of fortune to modify your car. Thus, leaving it uninsured will be a bad idea.

Giving your car the right coverage is very easy when you shop online. Through the internet, you have opportunity to meet with reliable insurance companies that does nothing but offer good and trusted deal.

Steps to follow:

a. Search for quotes comparison websites.
b. Get at least 5-10 or more auto quotes.
c. Start comparing
d. Do not accept the first quotes; you may end up not having the right coverage.
